Warm-Up 3 is all about turning informal, spoken language into formal, written language. The prompt is the kind of thing a health-and-safety officer might say when she's on a site visit, but the written version of her recommendations will use different grammatical structures and different words … because it's written and formal, not spoken and informal.
Remember that you've only got FIVE sentences to produce - you don't need to write the entire report.
Protective equipment must be worn, especially safety boots (with reinforced soles and toecaps) and safety helmets by everyone by all work.
ReplyDeleteThe Swedish authorities request everyone on the site to wear ear protectors (i. e. helmets with built-in ear muffs).
It is required to secure the whole site, and every part of the new building above ground level, with fences and safety barriers to prevent falling.
Swedish law requires valid test certificates for all construction vehicles.
If the rules and regulations are not observed, the Swedish authorities will withdraw the construction permit.
(Julius K.)
In connection with the Sweden laws and regulations there are several changes to be made in the organizing of the working process to prevent our project from closing up:
ReplyDelete• Workers must wear the compulsory work wear (such as boots with the reinforced soles and toecaps, hardhats, etc.).
• Despite the normal noise level workers must use helmets that have built-in ear muffs and a mesh to cover the face or other kind of ear protectors.
• Fences and safety barriers of the proper height must be placed everywhere the building starts above ground level.
• The diggers and a dumper truck must be prevented from usage before they are tested and the qualified mechanical inspection is passed.
The rules and regulations which govern the health and safety at a Chinese construction site are not implementable in Sweden. If we do not follow the imposed Swedish rules and regulations, the Swedish authorities will ban us from further construction, resulting in closure of the construction site.
ReplyDeleteThe workers on site are carrying heavy sacks of cement, girders, bricks and other heavy materials. For the moment our workers are using gymnastic shoes, we have been told that they need to be equipped with proper work boots, with reinforced soles and toecaps to prevent sever bodily harm in the event of an accident.
Hardhats are compulsory work wear in Sweden. No one is allowed to enter the construction site unless they are wearing an approved safety helmet.
Even though the noise level at the work site is normal, we have been recommended to equip all workers with helmet that have built in ear muffs and facial protection.
The test certificates for three of our diggers and a dumper truck have all expired. We are prohibited from further use of these vehicles´ until they have renewed test certificates. The vehicles hydraulic systems are also in need of an inspection by an authorised mechanic. We have been informed that the inspection facility is very close to the construction site and that they may be able to offer an emergency appointment within the next days.
The employees have to wear work boots equipped with reinforced soles and toecaps.
ReplyDeleteNo one is allowed to enter the building site without wearing an approved safety helmet. Helmets with ear protectors and meshes to protect the face are highly recommended.
When working above ground level, fences and safety barriers must be used to minimize the risk of falling.
All vehicles and machines must have valid test certificates, otherwise they may not be used.
Emy S.
In Sweden, strict legal rules and regulations exist, which must be followed in order to maintain a safe and accident free work environment.
ReplyDeleteThe Health and Safety Executive is going to close down the building site unless we remedy the following shortcomings.
Firstly, the wearing of proper work boots and approved safety helmets is obligatory when entering the construction site. Work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps and helmets with built-in ear muffs and a mesh are strongly recommended.
Furthermore, due to Swedish safety regulations, fences and safety barriers of the proper height are urgently required when working above ground level to ensure the safety of employees and avoid the risk of falling.

ReplyDeleteAccording to the Health and Safety Inspector who examined our construction site in Kalmar last week, we need to take safety precautions to avoid severe consequences with our future construction.
ReplyDeleteFirstly, the employees need protective working gear such as ear protection because of the high noise and proper work boots to avoid injuries while working with cement or heavy bricks.
Secondly, protective eyewear and approved safety helmets should be worn by everyone within the construction area (this also applies to any site-visitor).
There should also be fences and safety barriers surrounding the building zone to protect site visitors and any other people close to the site from serious injuries.
Lastly, some of our work equipment need inspections and new certificates, which we could obtain by booking an emergency appointment with an authorized mechanic.
